About me

The Artist Behind the Canvas

Artist Statement

Intuition guides my work as I study natural and recycled materials, collecting in a non-destructive way and creating organic forms. Nature is my source of inspiration, and spending time in the woods creates an understanding of the material’s origins as well as nature’s patterns and textures.  Through a process that appears to be of chance, impulses transform my work, allowing it to grow organically.

Working on many pieces at a time allows me to translate ideas between mediums, moving fluidly between materials and dimensions. The work grows spontaneously and relies on a strong sense of tactility for both maker and audience as mediums are explored and combined. Change is the only constant in nature as life adapts; growth and decay become the notes within a musical beat. By using natural and recycled materials while surrendering to improvisation, I holistically participate in this rhythmic cycle.

Since moving to near Mt. Lassen, I’ve been studying under the guidance of local plein air painters and exploring the vast landscapes of Northern California.  Many of these pieces incorporate all natural, homemade encaustic medium, which I have been exploring for four years.  The physical nature of the paint stimulates my senses as I create the medium in an eco-friendly manner, cooking it up on a hot griddle and smelling the beeswax as I paint.

I received my Bachelor’s of Fine Art, specializing in Sculpture in December 2013 from Ohio State University before moving to California in 2015 with my partner who is a fisheries biologist.  Now, I teach various classes near Redding, CA as a working artist, and spend many weekends on camping, fishing & paintings trips.  I work with the Shasta County Arts Council as manager of the Homeless Art Project and as Treasurer of Inwood Community Farm, a non-profit where we provide food and education to those in need.

My Journey

From the rolling landscapes of Ohio to the rugged coastlines of California, my artistic path has been shaped by nature’s beauty. After graduating from The Ohio State University in 2013 as the Fergus Award Recipient, I began showcasing my work in exhibitions across the country, including City Hall in Redding, CA, the National Park Service AIR at Whiskeytown Lake, and the 46th Annual North Country Fair in Arcata, CA.

Beyond creating, I co-founded the Arts At Heart Collective in Shelter Cove, California, fostering a space for artistic collaboration. More recently, my work has been recognized in the Midwest art scene, winning Best of Show at the Plein Air Art Show in Whitehall, MI, and exhibiting at Art Shop 107, LACA, and the Art Center White Lake. Through my art, I aim to capture nature’s essence and transform fleeting moments into lasting impressions.

I'm visionaries

Mission

I believe art is more than just an expression—it’s a bridge between nature and emotion, a way to connect people to the world around them. My vision is to create artwork that not only reflects the beauty of the landscapes I explore but also inspires others to see nature through a new lens.

Through my paintings, exhibitions, and community efforts, I aim to ignite a deeper appreciation for art and the natural world, fostering a sense of wonder, connection, and creativity in every viewer.
